Juvenile Lutino Cock

Galahs are one of our specialty breeds at Kimani Aviaries. We breed both normal Galahs for pets and the much rarer and very striking Lutino mutation.

We also breed the Western Australian sub-species (Cacatua roseicapilla assimilis) pictured above. These birds are longer and more slender in the body than the eastern states species. They have longer, fuller crests that are a deeper pink and the skin around the eye is white though the 'Handbook of Western Australian Birds' by Johnson and Storr published by the Western Australian Museum, records eye skin colours varying from pale pink to grey and white.

Being a fast and vigourous flyer, adapted to surviving in Australia's harsh outback conditions, Galahs are proned to obesity in captivity resulting in the development of fatty tumours and frequent egg laying problems. To combat this our Galahs are fed a pelleted diet with the addition of seeding grasses, fruit and vegetables and provided with native bushes and nuts such as Eucalyptus and Bottlebrush for enrichment.

Our male Galahs have proved to be consistently fertile at two years of age but although we have had hens produce eggs at two years they are more frequently successful at three years of age.

We raise both parent raised and hand raised young birds. Our handraised WA Galahs have particularly good temperaments and are guaranteed to be very tame.
